Amazon Limited Exclusive Star Trek Movie Blu-ray Set To Include USS Enterprise Replica

In November JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie comes out on DVD and Blu-ray, but there will also be additional special editions. We have already announced the Best Buy Blu-ray Gift set with badges and today it was announced Amazon will have a special limited edition Blu-ray set which comes with an Enterprise replica model. TrekMovie has exclusive details and high res images below.

Amazon Exclusive Star Trek Blu-ray set with Enterprise Replica
The new Amazon exclusive Blu-ray set is now the ultimate collectible for the Fall, with only 5000 of the limited sets being sold. With your three disk Blu-ray set with digital copy (see previous TrekMovie article for details), you get an 8.5 inch replica USS Enterprise made of solid metal with chrome, textured steel and pewter finishes. The replica contains no plastic and weighs over a pound.

Amazon limited edition Star Trek 2009 Blu-ray set with Enterprise replica

The replica is being made by QMx, who are also making the Artisan Studio-scale replicas of the Enterprise. They designed the Amazon exclusive replica from the same digital effects files used for the movie. QMx’s Andy Gore tells TrekMovie "we wanted to really raise the bar on metal work for this one, and we turned everything up to 11."

The Star Trek Limited Edition Replica Gift Set (Three-Disc + Digital Copy) (Amazon Exclusive) [Blu-ray] will be released on November 17th and costs $90.99. It comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by QMx and ILM’s Roger Guyett, as well as some other bonus materials. You can pre-order it now at Amazon.

Your other choice
If the Amazon replica set is a little too pricey, but you still want to get yourself something special, you may want to get the Best Buy gift set which includes four metal replica pins, also made by QMx. The set is selling for $39.99 and can be pre-ordered from Best Buy.

Pretty cool, but it’s a shame that DVD buyers don’t get these special gift sets.

Oh they are SO not playing fair. I want this, I want the badges, yet I only have a DVD player and am not going to buy a Blu-Ray just yet simply for this as much as I want to.

now i am considering buying 2 copys

Oh, ya right. Like I’m dying to have a ‘hot rod’ version of the Enterprise.

But they don’t light up and make sounds like my Playmates Enterprise.

Beautiful box, awful ship (notice that I said “ship”, not “model”)

I cancelled my first Amazon order so that I could order the Best Buy edition, now I am heading back to Amazon so that I can order this edition!

Any ideas about how many more editions they’ll be coming out with???

This one seems pretty sweet tho! It looks like it will go along nicely with my Franklin Mint pewter replicas collection!

That’s nice, but I still prefer the insignia pins. There are already Enterprises I can buy, but no official insignias. That’s why I preordered that set from Best Buy.

This IS a cool looking replica, but I think I’ll just wait for the model kit.

I can’t speak for Paramount, of course, but the badge set and this Enterprise replica are the only DVD/Blu-Ray Star Trek bundles QMx is working on :-)

At least the ship is not coming from Mattel. Their ’09 Enterprise has been pushed back to Febuary ’10 according to Entertainment Earth.

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MTP8509

I love the pewter ship! Would definitely buy that one if he price was lower. I’m already getting the DVD AND Best Buy bluray set… even though I don’t have a bluray player yet. Prices for a bluray player are still stupid high… but they will come down by January. But Trek will be my first bluray I am buying.

Too many whiners.

It’s so great to see trek getting this treatment – it always deserved this level of promotion and I, for one, would be proud to display this wonderful piece in my bluray theater room… if I ever get a bluray theater room!

I wouldn’t pay a cent for that ugly ‘new’ Enterprise design :-P

The faster they abandon DVD the better. I’m sick of late adopters whining because they aren’t treated to the latest and greatest.

I think that combo is pretty overpriced for a pewter sculpture though. Definitely going for the badges.

Does it say what scale the ship is? It would be nice to finally know how big the new Enterprise is.

I just think this will be something to have that others will wish they sprung for down the line, so I’m gonna get it…cuz it’s just too cool!

BTW, Am I the only one who finds himself going back to watch the trailers time and time again because the blu-ray’s not out yet? And they keep looking better and better to me…can’t wait.

The Enterprise design has such an awesome saucer and nacelles. I don’t know what happened with the secondary hull / pylons. Sigh.

I don’t blame Ryan Church though, he’s an awesome designer. Something else went amiss somewhere in the design pipeline.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Star Trek is playing at my campus theater!!!!

18 – I’ve been watching the trailers constantly, since they were downloadable on iTunes. Even during the movie’s run in theatres, which I saw 5 times. The trailers are great!

I am so willing to be broke to get this set, I’m getting a PS3 just so I can have the blu ray when this comes out. This set is a must for me…

The nacelles are ALL WRONG.

I’m sorry, but this model is not canon.

What does William Shatner think of this?

Well that Enterprise sure is pretty, but I’m sticking with the Delta Shield set. If I want a small metal Enterprise I’ll get one that’s at least good for opening beer bottles:

http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/kitchen/bd88/

I didn’t even finish reading the first paragraph on the page. Ordered!

8: “Any ideas about how many more editions they’ll be coming out with???”

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe Honda is set to announce a limited edition Star Trek 2009 Blu-ray set with life size robotic Lt. Uhura.

That is still one goofy looking ship.

The USS Goonybird.

Thanks dmduncan! Lol! But I think I will go with QMx Andy’s answer! :)Heehee!

Guys, whats all this about not getting a Bluray player? It’s not like they are so expensive. I got my Sony last Christmas time for $145.00 It plays Bluray, and upconverts regular DVD’s to HD. It’s really not that expensive. The other day a friend of mine bought a 46in TV and they threw it in @ Best Buy. I know times are tough, and if you don’t have the money, well no deal is going to be good enough, but i’m sure by Nov the Sony I have will probably be about $100 so if you can get it.. i recommend it.

Wow…people still hating on the new Enterprise. She’s not that bad really! Give the new girl a chance! Besides, how many different Enterprises have we seen now? 6 or 7?

And to quote: “There’s still plenty of letters left in the alphabet…”

I’ve given the new E a chance. She’s not the prettiest design they’ve ever come up with, but unlike others I don’t feel the need to belch forth my opinion on it every other day.

It is what it is, and I’m looking forward to the day I can have a model kit in hand so I can examine it from all angles.

Oh my Good. Is amazing. I have One.

You guys joke, but they are getting a special DVD release in Japan with yet another 1701 collectible: http://tinyurl.com/lpe7lj

wow, from the model, the nacelles each look as big as the stardrive section… which is neat, but, alas, not quite the proportions everybody’s used to. The stardrive and saucer are gorgeous and I’d like to see more of the nacelles at different angles. It looked pretty great on film – although I’d like to see more of her in action. I’m not quite ready to banish her from canon (cue trumpets) yet.

still like her better than the TNG enterprise (which took a while to grow on me too)…

Can someone clu me in on where I can get this in Australia (if i can) :)

BIGGEST – MONOPOLY PIECE – EVER.

all of you arte such losers

Just pre-ordered mine. Looks nice.

figures Paramount gets greedy and charges a 100 bucks for something that cost them less the 10 bucks to make.

God damn that’s a Frankenstein’s monster of a ship. Just…hideous.

#36. BS DETECTOR

….and Your Big “Typo” makes you cower before your Key Board.

I laugh at you.

oh and I don’t give a %$#@ about the Limited Exclusive Blu-ray Set. the Ship still looks dumb to me.

Meh, I’ll pass. It looks great and all, but I think I’ll just wait for the bigger, painted starship that QMx will be putting out later.

#11, I’m starting to think that the Hot Wheels version of the 09 Enterprise is just a lost cause, it’s been pushed back time and time again, and I’m quite frankly sick of it. Whereas the Narada is listed for next month…what the heck is Mattel doing???

29. SciFiMetalGirl

I still don’t get why people hate it so much. It looks fine to me. Good, even. Does this make me a bad Trekkie?

Buying the movie, but passing on JJ’s Enterprise….didn’t do much for me.

The Pewter Metal ship looks real nice, but for ruffly $60, I’ll have to stick to the more destructible plastic ones.

And an idea if you do not want to upgrade to Blue Ray, hope you have a Trekky friend that does have onem buy them the 3 disk set with the gift, then give them the Disks and you wrap the gift for yourself. It may look like your using your friend but look at it this way economics may be hard but your still making others and yourself happy.

Just remember only 16 more weejs until you have to look through all the wrapping paper for that part your son lost to that toy they said they can not live with out, but did not know that missing part is what makes it work.

#32, Another included gift, but what if you can not read the chicken scratched in that the Japanese scribble in.. But then I can not read most non english text is placed in.

I wanna know what is meant by….

“as well as some other bonus materials.”

A certificate of authenticity? ::cough:: coaster. Digital copy ?:::cough :: coaster.

My wife has decided that we’re getting a BR player this year just b/c of this movie. Now I’ve just got to convince her that we need two copies. Well, 6 copies if you think about it.

And let those DVD-only people complain. I’m *still* complaining about the lack of HD Trek (but I love the free remote)

#47…digital copies do make good coasters, and they’re cooler looking than real coasters.

Arrrgh dammit, I bet we won’t get these in Australia, and US Bluray discs won’t play in our players…

Cool-looking box set, but I still hope a buildable plastic model gets released soon.

@45: For that classy remark, I cordially hope you get stranded without a dictionary in Kobe. Or Dubai. Or Minsk. Or Athens…

QMx Andy,

Is this replica the lower cost version of what you guys are working on for the new Enterprise? I know you’ve got the BIG studio model going to order soon with another smaller ship expected around Christmas. I was just wondering if this was it.

Thanks

OMG the ship so disproportional and ugly…

I want the ship and the pins. Decisions decisions…

Anthony, has there been an article yet enumerating the different country’s DVD/Bluray premiums. I know Germany and it seems Japan have the model of the Ent that hold the discs in the saucer, it would be fun to see all these options in one article!

Ok. Whats going to be next. the Bluray set and a Replica of the Narada. I would rather have the Bluray and a replaca of an orian Girl. OOPS. Did I just say that. Oh well. I would rather have a Full Replica of the New Big E complete with Lights and some great sound effects from the Movie. Now that would be almost as kool as an Orian Girl.

Love the saucer. Hate the nacelles. Like the box. Really kewl.

Will buy the badges… If I could. DX

I’m onboard. Nice!

That is beautiful and I’d love to have it, unfortunately it’s a bit too pricey for my pocket.

If you want it but don’t have/want blu-ray (why its AWSOME) just buy it for the model. However I still say if you don’t have blu-ray you should buy a cheep $100 player and the movie. That way when you get an hdtv you won’t have to purchase a 2nd copy of the movie.

Reminds me of the days of overpriced Franklin Mint stuff…..like my petwer and diecast TOS Enterprses. From 195-300.00ea.
Having now entered my 2nd decade of debt, I’l pass. I do have a new Bluray for 213, on 5 easy payments and a preorder for the BD 3 disc. So now I have an 32″ HD tv, and 3 dvs players..standard,HD and BD.
And a multiregional dvd player I us eas a CD player for my stereo. The same credit that has afforded me to own 6 series and 10 filsm on dvd.
My collection reached critical mass and sold most of it…I won’t be repeating that cycle as blindly as I did for Trek’s 25th anniv..where I boiught eveything every China child-labored factory pumped out w/ the Trek name on it.

61: “My collection reached critical mass and sold most of it…I won’t be repeating that cycle as blindly as I did for Trek’s 25th anniv..where I boiught eveything every China child-labored factory pumped out w/ the Trek name on it.”

Ha! I know how that feels. I collected a bunch of Trek stuff as a kid but got rid of everything. I still have a couple of posters that I intend to frame someday and a diamond select electronic phaser which is good for agitating the dog.

But I did get the Kelloggs special offer 3D Enterprise plate, and I’m still waiting on my Kelloggs special offer Star Trek command Tee.

I want the delta shield set because the delta shield is so iconic. I’m glad they returned to the original design. It never needed any circles or bars behind it to help out. It was perfect as is.

The new ship has grown on me, to represent the new movie, but it still looks like it was based on a drawing by an 8 year old who drew the TV show ship from memory.

63-

lol

It’s another culture’s alphabet, not “chicken scratch”. Just because YOU can’t read it doesn’t diminish its value as a communication tool.

How in the HELL will we be able to appreciate alien cultures when we can’t even respect those of our own species?

The thing is I want the BB exclusive, but they don’t ship to Canada. So, either I need to plan a road trip to the States, or hope that either Best Buy Canada or Future Shop gets it, likely the former, and the latter will probably end up with a steelbook.

Does anyone here know that Wal-Mart has a $99 Bluray player now??? I find that extremely reasonable!!! It is not a bad unit! Check it out!

Matt Jefferies original design is so classic, as was Mike Minor, Andy Probert, and Joe Jennings work on ST:TMP. They are right when they say its not your fathers Enterprise…..it my grandpa’s Buick.

A great replica, shame I don’t like this version of the Enterprise the way I love the original and its refitted version

Pretty.

I’m not ready (or able) to switch to Blu-Ray yet, though.

B*stards are really starting to stick it to those who are staying with DVD for the time being….

I can’t believe so many people here hate the ship.

I didn’t like the first pre-release picture either, but after seeing her in action, she grew on my quickly. I think she’s quite pretty. I still prefer other incarnations of the Enterprise, but I like this one too.

Hey Hot Wheels! GET OFF YOUR ASSES and go make the ’09 Enterprise already!

65. Rocket Scientist, I’m not saying it’s dumb, or puting down Japanese letters, all I’m saying is like most Americans with their big fat thick skulls, it would have been nice to have the english translation. And because it’s oriental I have nothing against that. By brother’s wife is from Laos, and they adopted her sisters 3 kids when their parents were blown up by Terrorist, that killed others also and injured 300+ in Thailand.

The two teenage girls are having no problem adopting to Colorado culture, but the 16 year old boy even hates American TV, and getting to English and what school says about gay guys PO’s him, but he loves Scandinavian Blond girls. And to him Star Trek is not real so why care for non real things. And loves his iPod but hard to find the music he loves from Laos. and why should he use proper English when rap butchers it worse than he and makes big money. But he can talk with his old buddies via high school high speed internet and webcams. I’m surprised he has not asked to use my DSL line and my 22″ LCD screen with the Webcam built in.

Want any more cultures becoming one news?

And the chicken scratching for writing comes from how after my head injury and forgetting how to control my motor functions, that’s how my writing looked. And my old penmanship use to be of Drafting quality from when I won Colorado high school state Architectural Drafting in 1976, but gave it up to teach my self how to program computers.

And just because I make fun of something does not make me raciest, everyone needs minor humor that is not ment to harm anyone.

#72 I think they cancelled it and just didn’t tell anyone.

The new (Trek ’09 )ship is awful.
The movie was too broad appeal.
Want Star Trek watch “Wrath of Kahn” or’ Undiscovered Country”.
Maybe they can call min Nick Meyer to save this overhyped relaunch

i like both the new and old enterprise.

to 74— I think you’re right
to 73— I hear ya
to 65— calm down dude

68. Cafe 5 – August 29, 2009

Yes with you on that, that wonderful design work that went before has been dismissed a bit too much.I loved the film way more than I was ever expecting, but the Jjugliprise stops me from buying this box set, or any individual replicas. Will get the regular BD version and enjoy it immensely though.

52. BlueArrow – nope, this is a special version of the ship we created exclusively for Amazon. And because we wanted a really nice sculpture for our desks. Like we’re Starfleet Admirals. Not that we’d ever pretend that we’re Admirals – yelling at Kirk over subspace for his rebel ways. No. Never. Ah-hem.

Also, this is *not* the Collector Scale Enterprise replica. That will be much bigger with a detailed paint job similar to what you’ve seen on the studio scale replica (won’t be quite that big, though).

QMx is really upping the game in these Blu-ray exclusives. Now I don’t know which one to gun for, Best Buy or Amazon?
An all-metal replica? Hmm, I hope the struts don’t collapse under the weight of the nacelles! :-D

#42 Doesn’t make you a bad Trekkie, everyone has thier opinion. It just makes you less intelligent! ;)

Yup, add me to the list of people that ordered before we finished reading the first paragraph. Looks great! Thx Qmx & Amazon! I was really hoping the BD release would get something really special and this is it.

It’s very nice in metal finish, but I will stay with the Special Edition amazon offers in Germany. It’s not as expensive and I will like ist, to keep my Trek Blu Rays inside the disk :)

http://www.amazon.de/Limitierte-Sonderedition-exklusiv-Amazon-Blu-ray/dp/B002LARE4W/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1251580318&sr=8-4

Ah, it’s fun to get excited about all the collectibles and other cool stuff when they’re announced, but then you get to the end of the article and realize that there are those pesky little things like ‘tuition costs’ and ‘buying clothes’ and ‘eating’ hanging over your head. Then it isn’t so fun anymore. But hey, it’s still fun to dream, and Christmas is only a month afterwards, anyhow. Hope springs eternal!

(On a serious note, though, the Blu-Ray snobs cropping up here and a few other places I’ve been are really starting to p*ss me off. Tell me about the amazing picture quality and the $99 Wal*mart machine all you want, but I’ve had to decide that I won’t even be buying the DVD because it’s not in the budget. No big deal. This is not ‘whining,’ as you all have so sneeringly put it, it’s called ‘prioritizing.’ Sheesh.)

DISCLAIMER: The following note was not written to instigate or infuriate anyone. The writer is simply speaking his own mind, which he feels the need to do when something irritates him. He’s also very bored. Reader discretion is advised.

Anyway… once again, Blu-ray buyers receive the special treatment. Surprise, surprise. If you buy Blu-ray, they like you more since you’re shelling out extra cash for what are essentially DVDs with a little clearer picture (if you have a quality HDTV). As a reward for you wasting your money, they give you incentives to waste even more money. Genius!

Now, I can’t say they’ve completely forgotten the majority of us who are still buying DVDs, since they’re giving us a two-disc DVD set has most of the special features that are on the Blu-ray, but I don’t see any collector’s sets like this being sold for the DVD. Probably because it would be less expensive, and they want you to pay more for essentially the same thing. Figures.

I know some of you buy Blu-ray and love it, but I for one just don’t see what all the hooplah is about. Yes, the picture is clearer by maybe 20%. Yes, the sound comes through better. Yes, I can see the pores and skin blemishes on the actors. But the differences really aren’t that great. The picture and sound on a DVD are clear enough for me, and I don’t need to buy an HDTV or a separate player to watch them. So the Blu-ray people can offer as many incentives as they want, I’m not switching to Blu-ray unless I absolutely have to … or unless Blu-rays and HDTVs become ridiculously cheap. Neither of those are likely to happen in the near future. I’ll be able to buy the replica for about $20 in a few months, anyway.

And people are STILL hating on the new Enterprise? Despite how lovely and awesome she looked in the movie? Wow… people got issues, lol!

81. 16309A

Ô¾_Ô¾

Not gonna buy blu-ray till I got an HDTV. Because of my financial situation, not gonna get an HDTV until my standard def TV blows up.

I’m still banking on Target making an exclusive DVD set. (I hope I hope I hope)

My only problem with the new Enterprise after looking at her again is the distance between the nacelles. Seems to me, the nacelles and the pylons should have a slightly wider ‘wingspan’ behind the saucer than they do. Looking at my Playmates replica again and they just look like they’re positioned too close together. A little further apart and the whole design would look more elegant all around.

I sent you an email on Aug 14 about a special edition on amazon.de – an Enterprise model that contains the two discs in the saucer section!
Here’s the link again:
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002L3T6EA?ie=UTF8&tag=trekndedassta-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1638&creative=19454&creativeASIN=B002L3T6EA

@89: Whoah, that amazon.de Enterprise SE set is really cool! I love how the disks fit in the saucer.

cool.

@75: Nick Meyer is yesterday’s news, as is Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, Michael & Denise Okuda and a lot of other people. So you won’t be seeing them do any new movies.

it’s a pity so meaning people have a beef with the new ship. i quite liked it, it was a retro like design that looked modern, and was very sleek and elegant, i think it is one of the better designed ships that actually played on the style and not so much the straight functionality that trek always seemed to gravitate towards. oh, and i caught the This is Spinal Tap Reference Anthony!

oh, and if i had blu-ray and the money to blow I would so get this set

85: “So the Blu-ray people can offer as many incentives as they want, I’m not switching to Blu-ray unless I absolutely have to … or unless Blu-rays and HDTVs become ridiculously cheap.”

Charles, you may get your wish because 3D HDTV is the next big thing.

Unfortunately, 3D HDTV will require a new HDMI standard, completely different Bluray players, AND a new set of Bluray discs.

Will it take off? Will it piss off a public still upgrading from DVD? Who knows? But if it does there’ll be a fire sale on those old fogie 2D Bluray players and discs, and 2D HDTVs.

u got star wars fan talking stuff everytime they need to sit down but the movie is great

Oohh!!!! This is exactly what Target’s special packaging would be if they have it. It’s just like the special packages for Dark Knight, Transformers, Iron Man & Incredible Hulk! C’mon Target! Bring this over to the States!!!

#75 : I couldn’t agree with you more Galaxy Quest 2!

*Sigh* Still ugly, after all these months. . .

I would never and will never be a BD snob. I was dragged kicking and screaming into BD just so I could view the LOADED BD extras on the new Trek film’s 3 disc title. I will be purchasing VERY FEW BD titles unless the b*astards drop their prices big time. At this time, I own 2 titles and they came w/ the player. I will get Wolverine and Trek…and don’t see much else on the near horizen worthy of the UPPED price tag BD presently commands..and until pricies drop, standard DVD will get my cash till the format is dead.

does anyone know if this star trek blu ray sets can play in region 2?

I dnt kno but man i might have to by both of them

I may be a “hater” but I know a good lookin’ ship when I see one…

Lik this: http://deg3d.biz/desktops_01_07.html

Surprised at all the haters showing up to vent on our beloved (new) Enterprise. It looked great in the movie and this model looks top quality. Sick of plastic junk. Mine is ordered. I should probably order 10 of them because I bet it’ll soon become a collectible in the broader market.

(in AP’s doghouse)

2 cents: I’m definitely going for the badges over the ship. I still can’t stand the design; in my humble opinion it is FUGLY. And a weird yet unappealing mash-up of several different versions of the ship. Ugh.

If the battle of the swag is underway, I’ll wait for the version with the Orion blow-up doll.

“If the battle of the swag is underway, I’ll wait for the version with the Orion blow-up doll.”

That’d probably get me to double-dip (ahem.)!

Looks like Galaxy Quest Blu-Ray will be released by Paramount on November 17th too, along with Star Trek. Balls-y. Looks like Paramount announced this on Friday. Surprised it wasn’t posted here.

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Galaxy_Quest_Blu-ray_Details_and_Cover_Art/5646

Love it! Already pre-ordered. Cracks me up how many of you are upset over the design… I think it’s great.

:p

@103: Awesome image of TOS NCC 1701.

73. Spockish – August 29, 2009

ORIENTAL!!???? YOU have got to be KIDDING me. That is even more expensive than what you said the first time. Oriental is a WHITE MANS name for it. They do not call themselves that. At least refer to it as “Asian” if you must.

Spockish, The 50’s are calling, they want their racism back.

Yeah, the ship has grown on me a bit, just like the bitter swill of coffee or the rancid gag of alcohol grows on people… Does anybody love coffee the first time? No, we just become dulled to it.

But I still wish they’d made a different decision with that hump of a deflector dish. I don’t need this ship in my collection, but here’s hoping the next one inspires me (and others) more.

Definitely going to grab a blue-ray copy though.

pardon , Expensive = Offensive. Sometimes my brain doesnt translate well to my fingers.

73 and 113.

Spockish, are you from Alabama by any chance? ; )

Here is the one we need to get!

Anyone know if they just put the blu-ray case in the box, or is there some sort of special/unique packaging to house the discs?

I don’t know… if William Shatner has not been consulted about this packaging, I’m not sure I can purchase this set with a clear conscience.

Imho, I still think that the design of the new Enterprise sucks…

I’m with 120.

The new Enterprise sucks.

What a goofy movie.

Now, they can make Khan a Nokia-wielding, mix-gendered Andorian bent on enviro-terrorism who has a hankering for Cooler Ranch Doritos and hijacks the USS Renault.

No Director’s Cut, no cash from me!
What a waste of money.

Hm, Now i am happy with this but still not wholly convinced, therefore i am about to research a tad bit more.
